Dr. David A. McLain is a preeminent rheumatologist and an influential leader in his field, residing and practicing in Birmingham, Alabama at McLain Medical Associates. He earned his medical degree with honors from Tulane Medical School, followed by completing a medical residency and a rheumatology fellowship at Barnes Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis, where he trained under distinguished mentors such as John Atkinson and Bevra Hahn.

Dr. McLain's esteemed career includes a long-standing role as the Chief of Rheumatology at Brookwood Medical Center for over 25 years. In 1981, he founded the Congress of Clinical Rheumatology (CCR), an initiative that has since grown into one of the most respected and largest annual rheumatology meetings in the United States, now held on both the East and West Coasts.His scholarly contributions include numerous articles and a book chapter on Fibromyalgia, alongside regular contributions to Healio Rheumatology where he provides expert commentaries on the latest clinical research. 

Dr. McLain's commitment to education and leadership in rheumatology is further exemplified by his involvement with the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he collaborates in research and serves as a preceptor for the Nurse Practitioner program.Recognized nationally and internationally, Dr. McLain was honored with the Rheumatologist of the Year award by the Alabama Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation in 1999. He has served as the president and is currently the Executive Director of the Alabama Society for the Rheumatic Diseases. He has also been actively involved with the Arthritis Foundation and the Lupus Foundation of America's Birmingham Chapter.

Adding to his accolades, Dr. McLain was recently elected to the Royal College of Physicians for his outstanding contributions to medicine and was designated as a Master of the American College of Rheumatology, a distinction reserved for those who have achieved the highest level of success in the field.Dr. McLain's visionary leadership in rheumatology and his dedication to patient care and medical education continue to leave a lasting impact on the medical community both domestically and around the world.
